Ron’s great granddad, Frank Keene, came from Sterling, Virginia, by oxen to Virginia City, Montana, in 1864.
He was racing horses down Last Chance Gulch in 1865.  He established a ranch on the Missouri River near Canton, Montana, where he raised his family.  Ron’s granddad, Guy Keene, homesteaded southwest of Lingshire in 1914.  This ranch is now owned by Ron and Donna. Ron and Donna began ranching full time west of White Sulphur Springs in 1979.  Due to the prolonged drought, we sold most of our cows in 2002 and are now managing the ranch for absentee owners.  We had leased this ranch for 22 years, and we raised our family here.

We now have a little more time to devote to our horses, which have always been a part of our lives.  Ron still helps the neighbors trail cattle, brand, ship and wean calves and is always training his young horses.

We really enjoy raising good horses and won’t sell anything that we wouldn’t want.  We are constantly upgrading our breeding program.  We strive for a versatile ranch horse and we are proud of our program.

Our mares are daughters and granddaughters of Sir Rambler,  My Leroy Brown, Secretariat, Doc’s Jack Frost, Dash for Cash, Sir Quincy Dan, Eagles Gunsmoke, Topsail Cody, Shy Ole Man, Easter Gentleman, Major Bonanza, Simply A Spark, Paddys Irish Whiskey, and Doc Tari.  We think these mares crossed with our Peppy San Badger and Dual Pep grandsons result in excellent ranch horses and performance horses.

We have horses for sale, but we don’t sell horses.  We let the horses sell themselves.
