About This trainer
Montana born and raised, Jess has made a career out of doing what he loves most—teaching horses and teaching people. His earlier years were dedicated to starting colts. He believes in giving young horses “a fair shake” by clearly showing them what’s expected and building on their knowledge day by day.
He later took that colt starting experience to his alma mater, Montana State University, where he taught the Colt Starting Class for several years. Many of his MSU students still own the horses they trained in his class—they simply couldn’t part with them!
Jess continues to take a limited number of colt starting clients (contact him to get on the waitlist), but his primary passion these days is teaching Western horsemanship and training reined cow horses and riders.
As an instructor, he sets high expectations of horse and rider—but kindly supports the ups and downs of striving for constant improvement. If you want a deeper connection with your horse, someone to help you reach your goals, and a coach who has your back on good days and bad, you’ll love training with Jess.
